In September 2009 Christian guided the Black Ice Couloir with Erik Lindberg, long-time client and friend. What a spectacular and challenging climb! From the Lower Saddle the route follows the Valhalla Traverse circumnavigating the Enclosure (West Summit of the Grand Teton. The traverse takes you to the couloir formed by the steep walls of the East Face of the Enclosure and West Face of the Grand Teton. 1500 feet of ice climbing leads to the Upper Saddle of the Grand Teton. Conditions this day were ideal - blue skies, warm weather, low September sun that did not melt out the upper ice-fields. This is a formidable and exciting route.
