Climb and hike in the Dolomite Mountains in Italy, then travel to Tuscany for 2 days of cooking school with a master; Hike the Torres del Paine, sea-kayak to the ocean, then spend time on an authentic Patagonian estancia and learn the ways of families who have lived the ranch lifestyle for generations; Visit the monolithic churches of Ethiopia then dance around a bonfire with local villagers into the night; Climb the iconic peaks of the world’s ranges with guides who teach as much as they guide and who want to share their world with you.
We believe in small group travel catered to your interests and aspirations. You won’t find group trips in our pages, only ideas of destinations that we have explored and want to share with you and your group of friends and family. We believe in the process of working with you to create an experience that meets your needs and inspires your imagination.
While we have connections throughout the world and feel we can put together a trip just about anywhere, here are some of our special places:
Our custom mountaineering trips range from warm, sunny rock climbing in places like the City of Rocks, Idaho or Southern Utah tower climbs, to snow and ice covered peaks around the globe. We can design a series of experiences that will give you the tools to tackle most any mountaineering objective you might think of.
With 6 months of snow on the ground here in the Tetons, we have what you need to become a better skier, or just go shred powder. We operate in Grand Teton National Park through Exum Mountain Guides for custom skiing and mountaineering trips, and we can also work on ski technique on Snow King Mountain or Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Several of our guides work for the Jackson Hole Alpine Guides off piste for lift assisted backcountry skiing. And the Tetons are a great destination unto itself or a preparation ground for trips to tours in the Alps, heli-skiing or touring in Chile and Argentina, or Canadian lodge trips in British Columbia.
Trekking trips are a great way to see magical mountain landscapes around the world and connect with local people. We have operated trips in Patagonia, on the Inca Roads of Peru, on Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, and to the headwaters of the Ganges River in the Indian Himalaya.
We work with local operators to combine sea-kayaking with our trekking trips in Patagonia. Sea-kayaking is an amazing way to travel from the mountains to the ocean, and see a vast amount of terrain in a short period of time. We’re also able to use set camps where we can make great meals or even enjoy a asado de cordero (lamb bbq) on the shores of the Rio Serrano.
We strive to be travelers, not tourists. With our local connections throughout the world we’re able visit with local people and have experiences that tourists can’t. The best example is Patagonia. We spend time on the Estancia Rio Verde, a working sheep and cattle ranch on the shores of Skyring Sound. Ride horses on the windswept grasslands with the ranch’s staff and even get your hands dirty helping out with ranch chores. On a recent trip to the Dolomites, Christian was invited by a local guide to climb the Marmolada, the highest summit in the region, on the 150th anniversary of its first ascent. Dressing in period clothing the group ascended the mountain with hundreds of others and was treated to a choral band concert on the summit!
We are a full service global guiding operation. What sort of trip are you interested in? We can work with you to develop an unforgettable mountain or travel experience.
Owners Christian Santelices and Sue Muncaster have deep, intimate connections in Chilean and Argentine Patagonia. Christian’s father is the owner of the Estancia Rio Verde just outside of Punta Arenas, Chile. Aerial Boundaries has hosted guests at this special place for almost twenty years. It is always the highlight of any trip to Patagonia. We have explored many corners of Patagonia and love sharing this wild land and its people and we work with some of the most experienced guides in the region who will show you around like a local.
They say that home is where the heart is. And while our hearts are often split, the Tetons are definitely our home. Come experience some of the best backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering in North America or climb the iconic Grand Teton. All of the trips we do in the Tetons are through Exum Mountain Guides, America’s oldest and most experienced guide service where Christian is a Senior and former Chief Guide.
The Tetons are also one of the best places to train for many of our international trips. Prepare for climbs in the Alps or Patagonia by doing the Grand or Cathedral Traverses.
Cedar Mesa and Indian Creek, Utah provide incredible desert landscapes. In these areas we explore pristine canyons that demand a variety of outdoor skills including navigation, scrambling and rappelling. Tucked away in many of these places are Ancestral Puebloan ruins dating back 1000 years and more, and an abundance of hearty desert flora and fauna. Climb challenging red sandstone towers or spend some time learning the intricacies of crack climbing in the incomparable Indian Creek. Wherever we take you in the red rock deserts of Utah, you are sure to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
“Christian Santelices is an extraordinary guide. He has been my teacher and my mentor in the world of climbing, and he has become one of my closest friends. We have climbed in the Tetons, in Patagonia, in the Pyrenees in Spain, in the Alps in France and Switzerland, in the Dolomites in Italy, in South Africa--literally all over the world. I can give Christian absolutely the highest recommendation.”
"Thanks so much for the lesson today. I loved it! I actually have not stopped smiling. I am so excited; I even stopped at Yostmark on my way home to look at ice tools.”
“As officers, we will be required to make tough decisions and lead our subordinates by example. I feel that this course provides the perfect ratio of risk and safety to develop us in both areas. “It is one of the first times we are able to put into practice the leadership techniques and concepts we learn in a classroom environment. Training like this should be required.” “This was the best leadership experience, it taught me about myself and how leaders should act in the field.”
"The choice of Christian as our instructor was an excellent one. We enjoyed his instruction style and the gentle, yet firm way he encouraged us to push beyond our limits and fears. Overall we would rate this weekend as one of those peak experiences that one will remember for life."
"I believed I received something special - Christian's patience, insight, and instruction made this a memorable experience."
"I learned so much about myself and the spirituality of hiking/climbing on the Grand Teton experience. You made it fun, careful, insightful, and engaging. I was floored by the challenge and comforted by your special attention to my specific needs as delicate as they were at 13,000 + feet. Thank you for being friendly, professional, and most of all, keeping us safe."
"In every dimension - technical climbing and safety skills, teaching abilities, people management, strong leadership, individual and group psychology, and in terms of evoking a pure sense of adventure, Mr. Santelices was absolutely exemplary."
“Christian is a top notch instructor and educator. Clearly VERY experienced and VERY enthusiastic about teaching. He has some of the best educational and communication skills that I have seen (and I have been to many trainings through NOLS, Outward Bound, LNT, National Park Service, and Association of Outdoor Rec and Education). Christian is a fantastic ambassador for AMGA, has strong ethics, and is clearly invested in his students and the future of climbing guiding and education.”
"Christian was a great instructor. He's clearly been doing this long enough to have refined aspects of his lessons and be superbly comfortable with all the material making him very adaptable. His lighthearted, fun and humble nature seems hard to come by in our industry especially at his elite level and was greatly appreciated by everyone in the course. He was always encouraging, caring and understanding even able to own his own slip ups. Above all Christian was patient. He always took the time to make sure everyone was grasping the material and was happy to answer questions. A joy to learn from overall!"
