Patagonia: Southern Summer

At the far end of the South American Continent lies the mythical land of Patagonia. Encompassing parts of both Chile and Argentina, Patagonia is a land of wild granite spires, huge glaciers, swirling winds and resourceful, resilient people. It’s the perfect destination for guided mountaineering trips. Patagonia is also one of the last wild lands on the planet, with significant portions of it protected by national parks and preserves, as well as several private parks established for the express purpose of protecting wild places and animals. This is a land that never loses its fascination.

Patagonia is our specialty. Aerial Boundaries’ owners Christian and Sue have been traveling and working there since 1994, and Christian’s father, Sergio Santelices, is the owner of our base of operations, Estancia Rio Verde.

We combine many different combinations of activities on our custom trips to Patagonia – trekking, guided mountaineering trips, sea-kayaking, gastronomy, service learning, wildlife viewing, cultural tours.

The Alps

The birthplace of modern mountaineering, the French, Swiss & Italian Alps offer a huge variety of climbing and skiing opportunities for beginners to experts. High altitude mountaineering on mixed rock, snow and ice routes, hut to hut ski tours, and pure rock climbing are all options here. Trips begin and end in mountain villages with great food and comfortable accommodations. There is also a huge system of rustic mountain huts throughout the region where climbers can stay between climbs or use as links for longer ski or mountaineering tours.

Europe: Ski Touring Spring

Outside of the Alps are many incredible areas for exploration, trekking, rock climbing and gastronomy. We love combining hut-to-hut via ferrata tours in the Dolomites with cooking school in Tuscany. Or climbing Mount Olympus followed by rock climbing in Meteora and beach time on the Ionian coast. Europe has something for everyone.

Ethiopia

At the crossroads between Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and the Mediterranean, Ethiopia is a country of ancient history, beautiful people of many different traditions and ethnicities and beautiful landscapes and wildlife. As the place where early humans began their long migration across the globe, many have speculated that it is the birthplace of spirituality. The many ancient religious sites throughout this stunning country help attest to this theory. Our trips in Ethiopia help to benefit local rural communities’ education efforts through imagine1day.org.

TETONS: SUMMER OR WINTER

They say that home is where the heart is. And while our hearts are often split, the Tetons are definitely our home. Come experience some of the best backcountry skiing and guided mountaineering trips in North America or climb the iconic Grand Teton. All of the trips we do in the Tetons are through Exum Mountain Guides, America’s oldest and most experienced guide service where Christian is a Senior and former Chief Guide.

The Tetons are also one of the best places to train for many of our international trips. Prepare for climbs in the Alps or Patagonia by doing the Grand or Cathedral Traverses.

Peru

Our experience in Peru includes climbing in the Cordillera Blanca on 5,000 to 6,000 meter glaciated peaks, trekking the ancient Inca roads past incredible archaeological sites including Machu Picchu, and visiting local Quechuen people’s homesteads outside of the fascinating city of Cusco. Peru is a beautiful land of tall mountains, green hills, friendly people and wonderful food.

SOUTHWESTERN DESERT: SPRING/FALL

Canyoneering in red rock canyon wilderness, sandstone tower and crack climbing. The Indian Creek and White Canyon/Cedar Mesa areas of Southern Utah encompass stunning expanses of red rock desert with many opportunities for adventure and exploration. Aerial Boundaries is a certified concessionaire of the Monticello and Moab Districts of the Bureau of Land Management.
